I was wandering if any of you could provide me with some clues as to what would be better transportation to get to Manaus from any point in Peru.
My boyfriend and I are planning to visit Cuzco, Macchu Picchu and Trujillo, but from either of those cities we were wandering how to take a boat ride to get to Manaus in Brazil and all the details we should know (cost, level of safety, clothes to wear, etc). We are probably going to be there in Oct-Nov, 2006.
I would really apprecviate any kind of information.
Thank you so much guys!
You can fly from Iquitos to Manaus easy, or you can get a boat from there to the tri border Tabatinga then another to Manaus, I think the whole trip takes around seven maybe more days.
The boats are good fun and very safe. Although many travellers complain about boredom, (not me), you get on, sling up a hammock, make sure you have enough snacks etc, games, cards stuff to do then chill out.
the boats vary in price depending on what kind of comfort you want, hammock class, cabin etc and where your going to obviously, also boats vary in price, best thing to do is get there and check it all out first hand.
let me know if i can help with anything else
From Cuzco or Trujillo, you have to fly first to Lima, and then fly to Iquitos, that's the easiest and fastest way, otherwise, it will take you more than 4 days connecting roads and boat rides, before get to the Amazonas.
[ Edit: Sorry, no promos please... ]
Thank you guys!
Although, I knew about the flights and having to go back to Lima to get to Iquitos, I was hoping somebody could tell me how long and how much would it be to get to Iquitos by bus or if there's a train?, as I'm looking for cheaper alternatives to flying.
I have been doing some research and I couldn't find any direct buses from Trujillo or Cusco to Iquitos. Does anyone know a good bus website where I can find time tables and prices in Peru?
Also, is there another option in Peru besides Iquitos to take the boat to Manaus?
As far as I am aware, the only ways to get to Iquitos is either by plane or boat.
I couldn't find any reference to land access to Iquitos from Lima back in early 2005 so my wife and I flew there from Lima.
Well, the speed boat will leave you from Iquitos to Tabatinga in 12 hours . The line boat Tabatinga to Manaus: 5 days and will cost 145.00 R$ (1 US$ = 2.25 R$)
Manaus to Belem 6 days, 150.00 R$
but note! You will sleep in Hammock but the comfort and safety is good and all food is included. You never will forget this journey. Cheaper and better than plane. In Manaus the weather is good, Rain season stop, but don't forget repellent
when you arrive in Manaus you can contact the Meeting Point to find cheap Hostels, Guides, Trips

hi, you can take another route to get iquitos if you have time. When you are in trujillo you can take a bus to tarapoto(movil tours, civa) and 15 hours you are in tarapoto(jungle with mountains). You can stay there and be in a ceremony with a shaman and the ayahuasca, you will feel great, it is an amaizing experience. Then you go to Yurimaguas by car(5 hours) and then take a boat to iquitos(eduardo boat) you will get iquitos in 3 days. In the trip you will see the Pacaya Samiria national park.
Another way, in july lan peru has a sale if you travel at nigth, I think US38 dollars one way.
