On this august, I have been planing vacation in Fethiye Ölüdeniz.
I have a friend in there who works in a Gift shop. He told so many things about there.
Is there any one who seen Fethiye ? I would like to hear somethings from foreigners. I need your advices.
I have been to Oludinez. We were actually staying at the next town called Hisaronu but spent quite a bit of time in Oludinez. My wife liked it, but I must say I wasn't overly impressed. The natural aspects of the place were nice (beach, lagoon, butterfly valley, etc), but to me it was spoiled somewhat by the hordes of low budget toursits and the rubbish and cigarette butts they'd leave all over the beach. Plus, I got bitten by a wild dog
I guess my expectations were a little higher, but this is only my opinion.
I m really sorry for such troubles in Fethiye.Particularly dog...
It s so strange...
Hope you have already forgetten them.
Many thanks for your advices.
We spent a good deal of time in Turkey, and I have visited it before as a child with my parents.
We have great memories of every town/city that we went to. But what stood out compared to a lot of other destinations was the friendliness of the Turkish people that we'd meet. Whether they were shop assistants, restaurant staff, hotel/hostel staff, they were all very welcoming.
I stayed for three nights in Fethiye and did a daytrip to Ölüdeniz.
I was there in March so it was defiantly low season and I expect that my time there would be very different to what it would be in high season. I found Ölüdeniz very beautiful to visit but I wouldn't have liked to stay there, I couldn't anyway because it is a ghosttown out of high season. I suppose that tells you what sort of place it is. A tourist town. My highlight here was being the only person on the beach and then one of the maintenance guys hired us a paddle boat (shaped in the shape of a dolphin) for one hour, I got to paddle around the lagoon while it was totally deserted.
Fethiye is a great town, although it is still very much aimed at tourists. This is where most people launch from to do the 3 night boat rides along the coast. But I found lots to do in and around Fethiye. The local food and general market was really fun to explore, I think it is twice a week. And I did a great walk (full day) from Fethiye to Kaya, which is a deserted town of stone houses which is a result from the population exchange with Greece following WW2. I would defiantly recommend this walk (it was about 15k one way though, I caught a dolmus back)
i am (f/28/istanbul/lawyer) planning to go to fethiye (most probably oludeniz) for vacation on 29.7.2006
if anyone planning the same pls contact me
