Hiya,

I'm off to the Amazon next July and am planning on taking my leather walking boots. This is mainly because I'm doing the Inca trail and want to have sturdy footwear. I haven't heard anything about Gortex not working so would be very interested if anyone knows!!!!

If walking boots are the best footwear to take - what is?!

Hi,
I have Gortex boots and never had a problem with them, all I can reinforce is that you do wear boots and not runners as you don't want to be caught out on a trail after rolling your ankle when you were wearing the incorrect footwear.

I have worn goretex lined boots in extreme heat in Germany and England (those weeks this year and last when it was about 38 C) and they were fine. Obviously you get hot and sweaty feet, and are glad to get them off at the end of the day, but in those kind of temperatures you will always be hot n sweaty, and being able to plodge through ankle-deep mud without fear of wet feet is worth its weight in gold!
