Hi Tammy...

I think you are in for a big surprise.. both of these cities are ultra modern. You can eat and drink anywhere. There are tons of inexpensive hostals, for which you do not need to belong to a youth organization to get access to. In Madrid, the Prado Museum is a must see..you can take the train to the Atocha station and walk a couple of blocks... get surfing and you will find a ton of things to see and do..Barcelona is that party capital of Spain..you will really love it. And the weather will be great!

Cheers

hi tamy,
you'll have a good time in spain on october, as the weather is fine and there are many things to do outside. in madrid, you can walk through el retiro, the most famous park, and cross streets like preciados, gran via and callao for shopping. don't miss the three museums: the prado, the reina sofia (contemproary art) and the thyssen collection. if you're looking for tapas and night party, go to plaza santa ana, puerta del sol and chueca, the gay-friendly neighbourhood where you'll find lots of shops, clubs, bars and terraces.
in barcelona, you should walk by el born, the coolest neighbourhood in the city. if you're lucky, maybe you still can have a bath at the barceloneta beaches (you can go there my metro). don't miss la rambla and the gothic neighbourhood, and you could also get lost in the little streets of el raval, but only by day (it could be a little bit dangerous at night). step to passeig the gracia and rambla catalunya for a nice walk and a drink in one of their terraces. as for art, don't forget to visit some of gaudi's buildings (la pedrera or la casa batlló and, of course, the sagrada familia).
you'll find many places for eating out. in madrid, you can eat in plaza santa ana or plaza mayor (one of the most beautiful squares in the country). in barcelona, go to el born or el raval for good and cheap places. as for accomodation, take a look at these youth hostels:

barcelona

enjoy your trip!

Hi,

You will have a nice stay in Spain, I'm sure, because Barcelona and Madrid are lovely cities. When I was in Madrid, I found -snip very useful, because it has plenty of information on what is worth seeing in Madrid and also tips for accommodation, like best hostels and hotels. If you are looking for a taxi or a car rental company, they also have can help you because they provide lists with companies from Madrid. As for Barcelona, I saw recently a guide for tourists, also in Spanish: -snip. Take a look and make a plan for your trip. You could even bookmark them to easy your search.

Have fun!!!

Hi,
Everytime i go to Barcelona I go to eat at Xeroga a chilean restaurant I know not very spanish, but really cheap and good.
I advise you on Pastel de choclo, ceviche and a Pisco sour .

It´s at the bottom of the ramblas, Plaza colom, behind the militar office.
Parque 1 dcha Tel (003493) 4126275.

Bon profit as they say in BArcelona.
