Hi,
We will be visiting the East Coast ( NYNJ area ) in summer and want to take a short side trip to see the Niagra Falls. Can some one advise how long it takes to drive, the best route, accomodations and other tips. I have heard the Falls are beautiful from the Canadian side. Is it worth the drive? How much time does it take ?Are there any package tours or bus tours available ?
Any suggestions, advise and help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

You don't say where in NY/NJ you will be staying... I will need to know that to give you the best route.. If you are staying near NYC , you need to take 90 west to 290 west. From NYC that is about 450 miles NF

Thanks , I am not sure of the address where we will be. Its probably somewhere near Newark airport or Cherry Hill, if that helps.

I am guessing it will take at least 6-7 hr drive so will one day of sightseeing and 2 days driving with an overnight stop be enough? We are travelling with small children. Also , is it 450miles to the US side of NF?
Thanks for your reply.

Actaully, once you reach the border of the US , Cananda is right across the river... so 450 miles brings you to the USA/Canadian border... a great idea too is to google a zip code or address for Niagara Falls and do map quest from your location in NY/NJ. That will give you your exact route and mileage... http://www.mapquest.com/directions/main.adp?go=1&do=nw&rmm=1&un=m&cl=EN&qq=hltF3hzNT9tNhURP0HLlhh9UYBmHRqyBceg4Gkon14D8uewLk7pjHQ%253d%253d&ct=NA&rsres=1&1y=US&1ffi=&1l=&1g=&1pl=&1v=&1n=&1pn=&1a=&1c=&1s=&1z=10099&2y=US&2ffi=&2l=&2g=&2pl=&2v=&2n=&2pn=&2a=&2c=&2s=&2z=14301&r=f

Niagara Falls is not a short side trip from Newark, and especially not from Cherry Hill. Well, I guess that's all relative.. but from Newark it is easily 7+ hours to the Canadian side. (Yes, the Canadian side is better.) From Cherry Hill, which is basically right outside Philadelphia, it's a solid hour more.

But yes, you could do it in a day. Just be aware of the distance.

You may even consider leaving your car behind for a while once you get to Niagara Falls and taking a tour of the region by train. In the Niagara region, there are tours featuring vineywards, theatre, natural attractions or outdoor adventures.
