Anyone know where the best places in new zealand are to go skiing /snowboarding for a couple of days while i'm there? I'm 19, male, like to take good runs with a good variety of twists, turns and occasional jumps. I'll probably be flying in from Australia, then back to australia.

Thanks alot,
Jimmy

Not sure I'm qualified to talk about the best as I've only been to one, but I really liked Turoa (spelling?) on Mt Ruapehu (spelling again?!). I am only a beginner but there seemed to be a variety of slopes (from the 'baby' learning slope which I was very good at, to the 'oh my god I'm about to plough through that queue of people waiting for the chairlift' bigger slopes). I had a great time though and ski boots/skis/ etc hire was pretty reasonable as I recall..

Hey Jimmy,

Your best bet coming in from Australia will probably be to fly into Queenstown and ski at Coronet Peak and/or The Remarkables. Queenstown is a party town with a lot going on other than skiing. If you want a bit more mellow experience, and frankly better skiing, base yourself in Wanaka and do your skiing at Treble Cone. There's also a resort called Cardrona between Queenstown and Wanaka.

If you're planning on renting a car, try to find an agency that offers free lift tickets with car hire.

If you have any more specific questions, send me a pm, as I spent a ski season living down there.

John
