Hey all!

Having experienced the Mardi Gras in New Orleans this year, I have now set my sights on the Carnaval in Rio. Can anyone help me out with some advice? How expensive can it get to stay there during this time? Would it be too dangerous if I didn't have a guy with me? Any other insider tips? I really appreciate it!

Tam

Hi Tam

It is very expensive to stay in Rio during carnaval and it is a event that we brasilians what on tv, it is also expensive to get a ticket to see it live, there is no carnival like you guys see on tv on the streets, the real carnival is a competition held in the sambodromo, which is a stadium, so you have to pay to get in. If you want to dance and enjoy yourself there are many others carnivals in Brazil, the best one is in salvador, this is a street party, and if you want to dance safely you have also to pay, but you get security and can actually participate. If you are set on going to rio I'm sure there are some kind of group tour that organizes all for you.

If there is anything else you would like to know about Brazil or Rio in general you can ask me, hope I didn't rain in your parade!
Pam;)

Hey Tam,

I heard that you can rent an appartment in Rio for much cheaper than a bed in a hostel durring Carnaval.

Have fun (as I'm sure you will)!

Peace,
Steph

One piece of advice, book well in advance.

It is expensive.

I can totally recommend going to other cities in Brazil for the carnival where its cheaper and often the experience is as good and totally different.

I heard Olinda in the north is pretty good, well loadsa places anyway. Tis the season to be merry
