Gday all,

heres the stoery....
im an 18y.o male uni student and me and 2 mates are looking at traveling upto north queensland for a music festival at Kuranda at the end of the year. the festival is only for one day so we are gonna stay up there for about 3 - 4 days and relax in the great surrounds....

so here is the questions:

where are the good places to visit around north queensland... (and by good places i mean, tropical and sunny and awesome surrounds. a good place to relax)?

we are planning to do this as cheap as possible, we are driving up too so that takes a vit of cash. but how much will it cost for accommodation nightly, at backpacker hostels or whatever?

what would be a reasonable budget excluding the petrol for say 4 days in tropical north queensland, we wont be to much sight seeing or traveling, but just want to relax and enjoy...

well any help at all would be much apreciated...

if you want cheap, just go to the beach. But if you want something exciting that you have to pay for then go white water rafting on the herbert river. there are some days tours like this that are available from your hostel or hotel just ask reception.

hey long does the music festival go for, 1 day or a few days? If its only one day then i suggest to stay in kuranda for just that night..its a nice place but very small and not a great deal you can do up can visit barron falls and go for a drive around but that wouldnt take more than a few hrs..personnally the only reason I'd go there is to see the falls which are best right now cos we are just finishin the wet season.Otherwise to be honest kuranda is very dull..

Cairns is about a 30min drive away down a winding road (which you wouldn't want to drive to often) and is alot more fun and excitin than kuranda. Good night life there too..from cairns you can do so much and think when you get here just go to one of the many tourist centres gab a map of the area and then decide what you want to do...

as for backpackers im not sure how much they cost but i know the two most popular are the serpent and gilligans (which has a nightclub attached) but im pretty sure they would be the most pricey too. But there are sooo many backpacker places here so im sure if you look around you will find somethin cheap..

hope that helps...have fun...
