Hi Can any one please suggest any really good hostels in Sydney. We are travelling there later this year and would like to book somewhere that has been recomended.

Cheers!

My favorite hostel in Sydney is and has always been Glebe Point YHA. The hostel itself is nice - if not spectacularly so - with a decently large kitchen, very clean rooms and above all an awesome rooftop area with hammocks that lounge about in, watching the sunset light fade away while sipping a cup of tea, or read a book in while weathering the worst of the afternoon heat.
These things are nice, but the reason this hostel really jumps out is because of the neighbourhood it's in, Glebe. It's right at the edge of the big city - 10 minutes walk away from a shopping center with two large supermarkets, 15 minutes walk away from central station (5 minutes beyond that shopping center), or 15 minutes by bus from Circular Quay, but it feels as if you're in a small village, and the most vibrant and bohemian-feeling village you've ever seen at that. A place where everybody walking by is genuinely smiling, and random strangers will stop you for a chat. A street literally lined with the most awesome little cafes, bakeries and restaurants, as well as numerous used book- and cd-stores.

Every time I returned to Sydney, that's where I stayed.

I agree - Glebe Point YHA in Glebe is a good hostel! I've stayed there a number of times too.

It's also walkable to Darling Harbour and the city.

If you want a hostel by the beach try Surfside Backpackers in Coogee - Always seems like a good vibe whenever I walk past. I've heard some good things too from a few travellers here about Noahs in Bondi Beach too.

If it's the centre of the city you're after with lots of people try Wake-Up hostel right by Central station.

I wouldn't bother with any of those grungy backpacker places in Kings Cross though.

Hi Sarah

I stayed in Footprints on Pitt Street for 3 weeks over Christmas 06. Was the best! The hostel itself is great - it is a converted hotel so each room as 6 beds and an en-suite (unless you're on the 13th floor!). There is a real party atmosphere and the place arranges nights out all the time.

It couldn't be more central either - 5 mins from the train station, short walk to shopping centre, 30 seconds from Scruffy Murphys (yes I'm Irish) etc etc. This was probably one of the best times of my trip so I highly recommend it!
