Hey guys.

I am new here in this forum and it took me quite sometime to find such a good forum.

Well, I have been planning to travel to the Philippines end of this year when I have Christmas break. And it will be travelling alone. But the thing is I have never travelled solo before and hence I am unsure of the procedures that I should follow.

I was looking at Air Asia for the flights to Pinas and they are cheaper than those offered by the Malaysia Airlines but the plane will be landing at Clark airstrip instead of Ninoy Aquino Airport.

I have some questions and I hope you guys would be able to answer my doubts and give me some clarification so that I do not have to halt this plan of mine come December.

Here are the questions:

1. How do I get to Manila from Clark? And how much would it cost and approximately how long would it take to reach Manila?

2. Where is Best Western Hotel La Corona located (in Manila or Clark)? Or rather what are the best place to put up at?

3. Do I need to apply for visa in Malaysia beforehand?

4. Where are the embassies located?

5. How do I arrange transportation from Manila to Clark on the day that I am scheduled to fly home?

6. Are there any specific places that I should be extra careful of since I will be bringing my photography gears along for some shooting?

I know that this post is rather long but I really hope that all of you travellers out there could help me. Need to pre-plan before I go over.

;)

Thanks in advance!!!

Kyles,
It has been many years since I was in the P.I. but I think I can help. Google; 'swagman hotel manila'. They have hotels in Manila and Clark(Angeles City). It is geared for single males, but they would be happy to have you as well. They also run a swagman bus everyday between Manila-Clark. Also have sightseeing tours in both cities, diving packages as well.

Get on their website and e-mail them your questions. Since they are in Manila & Clark, they will have the answers.

Hi Kyles,

Your Questions:

1. How do I get to Manila from Clark? And how much would it cost and approximately how long would it take to reach Manila?
Board bus (a 40-seater, air-conditioned bus service provided by the Philtranco Services Enterprises, bearing the AirAsia corporate logo and flight number ,will be parked outside the Arrival Hall of main exit . The fare is 300 pesos. Takes about 3hrs to Manila (120km).Drop-off point is at the Philtranco Terminal, Ground Floor, SM Megamall Building A, ADB Avenue, Ortigas Centre, Mandaluyong City

2. Where is Best Western Hotel La Corona located (in Manila or Clark)? Or rather what are the best place to put up at?
This hotel is in Metro Manila...but why chose this hotel...USD40 plus ? why not try Malate Pensionne at Adriatico St.Malate (close to SM Megamall where u can drop off the bus. Cheaper, friendly...good food around, etc. deluxe twin share is 1200P

3. Do I need to apply for visa in Malaysia beforehand?
Malaysian citizens dont need visa to Philippines...Your profile says so. but if you are a PR of another non-Asean country you need to have visa...just for your info, departure tax is 350P

4. Where are the embassies located?
What embassies are u talking about ? The US Embassy is near Western Hotel La Corona . Malaysian Embassy is at Tordesillas Street, Salcedo Village, Makati, Metro-Manila

5. How do I arrange transportation from Manila to Clark on the day that I am scheduled to fly home?
You can wait at the SM Megamall building for same bus ( Air Asia logo)...I think Air asia has brought forward flight time from Clark to KL to 11.45am...so take early bus to airport

6. Are there any specific places that I should be extra careful of since I will be bringing my photography gears along for some shooting?
Are u visting the islands..or just confining yourself to Luzon? Just be careful of the young street urchins in Manila!

Have fun!

Dana

Hi Kyels,

You got some good answers already. Besides the bus mentioned previously, the Clark Field front gate is real close to the DAU Bus station. There are busses that can take you to Manila from there. One company was the Rabbit line, and the bus I used last year was the Victory Liner company, figure around 140 pesos. (No toilet onboard the bus 3 or 4 hour ride!)

If you have valuable camera gear, really anything of value, keep it with you at your seat! If you check a bag in on the plane or on a bus - keep valuables with you at your seat! I am a fussy traveller, I only stay in places that have individual security boxes for my valuables. I wouldn't leave anything of value out in your hotel room, it may not be the hotel staff that rips you off, it could be a fellow traveller in one of the nearby rooms.

There are travelers who say they have always left stuff out in their rooms without any problems, I prefer not to take a chance with my money and valuables. Bring a bag with you that you can lock up, also when you get a key to the security box don't leave it out in plain sight.

The "Fly the Bus" transportation that Swagman runs will pick up at other hotels in the Clark/Angeles area. Along side the Clark airfield is a street named Don Juico Avenue, Clarkview that has some travel agencies with tours to several locations. Lots of bars, restaurants, stores and hotels on this street. (Swagman has a webpage.)

In Manila take a look at the new "Asia Mall" that just opened. It is on Rojas Ave. and you can take a meter taxi there. Manila is a lot cleaner this year compared to previous years. The streets have been cleaned up and new lights installed (Ermita area.) Even the taxi cabs seem to be a little easier to use and the meters work right again. Meter taxi will be cheaper than bargaining.

There is an overhead MRT or LRT rapid transit train (cheap) that can take you to many places in Manila. Check out the Careido stop walking street. A couple years a go this was a stinky Jeepney/bus/taxi crowded dirty street - now it is a clean "walking steet" area.

Good luck.

Depends on when you fly out of Clark. If you have an early flight out of Clark it might be better to spend the night in the Angeles/Clark area.

The Swagman Hotel in Manila, on A. Flores Street, will sell tickets for their transportation. There are several departure times for Angeles.

Karazyal,

Do you go to The Philippines often? Well, thanks for the tips and yes I will not leave anything valuable outta my sight and it's better to keep it within our sight as you have mentioned.

(:

Thank you for the tips and I'd like to make the Swagman site that you were talking about is it this one - http://swaggy.com

Just wanna make sure that it is the correct one.
