Ride the Dragon Boats, check out the Raffles Hotel for the heck of it.

The Boat Quay area has some nice expat type pubs.

You can hop on the LRT/MRT and take a ride around the city pretty cheap.

Oh yeah, pick up one of those Singapore T-shirts that has all of the little petty crimes that you can get fined for. Misdemeanors like peeing in the elevator, jaywalking, spitting on the street, etc.

Little India, Arab Street and Chinatown are worth a wander around. Go to the bar at the top of the Swissotel for a great view of the city by night. You can do a boat trip down the river from either Boat Quay or Clarke Quay (can't remember which)which is touristy but good fun.

I also had a stopover in Singapore. I think thats the best way to do it and there isn't enough there to justify a proper holiday there but a couple of days will give you a taster! Agree with little India and Chinetown (didn't go to Arab town). Singapore zoo is fab - as I remember, all the animals are freely roaming around (rather than fenced off) but separated from you by rivers etc (so not change of getting eaten by a tiger!). Spend an afternoon there then go back and do the night safari - you get to ride round on a little train and see completely different things to during the day.

Hi Dannyboy,

If you are in Singapore for a stopover/transit, there is a free city tour that you can sign up for in the airport. Its a 2-hour sightseeing tour of Singapore where you can choose between a Colonial Tour, Cultural Tour or a Lifestyle Tour.

Details are available here:
http://www.changiairport.com/changi/en/airport_guide/exp_changi/rest_n_relax/free_sgtour.html

Otherwise, you can visit the following places which is easily accessible via the MRT (train).

To experience the culture
- Little India (little india station or farrer park station)
- Chinatown (Chinatown station)
- Malay Village (Paya lebar station or Eunos station)

Shopping:
- Orchard Road (Shopping)
- Raffles City
- Marina Sqaure
- Suntec City mall

You can visit the heartland where you can find some shopping malls & look at the accomodation where most SIngaporeans stay.
You shd visit one of these
- Bishan (Bishan station)
- Ang Mo Kio (Ang Mo Kio station) : older estate
- Tampines (Tampines station): it has 2 big malls there
- Toa Payoh (toa payph station): some tour groups bring people here.

Other places of interest include:
- The Singapore zoo
- Sentosa
- River cruise
- Duck cruise (you can board at Suntec city which is a mega shopping mall)

If you want to visit the pubs, you can go to:
- Mohamad Sultan (take a cab from Somerset station..its near Orchard Rd)
- Clarke Quay (Clarke quay station)
- Boat Quay (Raffles place station)

Hope this helps...
