1.Are cabs from the airport expensive to hotels in the city? I know the airport is like 13km away, how much do you think it will cost and can i pay us dollars?
2.Is is easy to obtain a tourist visa at airport on arrival if
Im not sure about prices for cabs to and from the airport but when I was in egypt we had to organise a price with the taxi driver before getting in. They are shifty aswell so be careful because we had organised a price and at the end of our trip the taxi driver was saying that we had to pay more and wouldnt give us our luggage that was in the boot...a police man saw us disagreeing and came over to check out what was going on & only then did we get our luggage. But taxis were very cheap...Another major problem we had was changing money. We were carrying australian dollars and it was very hard to change into the local currency and then we also found that alot of places, like the trains, didnt accept even there own currency and you had to pay with pounds or euro...I would suggest changing as much money as you can into local money and pounds before you go and make sure you keep it safe....have fun

the cabs from the airport were pretty cheap, all depends how far your hotel is and how much you haggle.
agree with everything angieg said especially agreeing on the price before you get in.
the most common 'scam' we had was agreeing on a price then when we get to the destination they would try and say the price was for each person.
visa's were very easy to buy for us, you get them just before immigration and are very cheap, you can also change your money there
from the airport to the city in Hyundai car it is coast 70 Le about 13$
and about the visa up to the nationality be problem for some Asian nationalities
Seems like you're a Canadian, you shouldn't have problems getting the visa at the airport. It's straight forward, fill a form, show your passport, then presto! Visa is yours!
As for taxis, just wave a couple down and bargain! Don't take the first taxi you see.
Taxi drivers are a bit cheeky, I had the per person price tried to me too. The easiest thing to do is asked the hotel to call the police. Just saying it solved all my problems. Never had to call them. They were so scared to see the police involved they back up on what was previously agreed.
Just to make sure you agree on the right price ask the police officer just outside the airport how much is the ride.
No problems with visa, as long as you pay for it.
agree with everything said so far.
I think You'll need dollers to pay for the Visa(seem to remember it was $15... that was some 4 years ago however!) have them before you arrive else you'll get a rubbish exchange rate at the airport! Also try and have change... usual scams there!
this site will help you for all your requests regarding Taxi drivers....
I lived in Cairo for a year and loved it!
Hope you enjoy it too
thank you guys sooo much! This was ridiculously helpful.
70 LE seems alot for me, knowing some of the prices for taxis in Cairo. I know that Egyptians pay around 3 US-dollars (three, not thirteen) for the ride from the airport to the city centre (Egyptian museum area, Midan Tahrir). So if you throw a 5 USD note at the taxi driver he may try to raise hell and threaten you, but for sure he won't be underpaid.
I am living in cairo would you please tell me your hotel place so i can give you an exact price any how if you send me your flight number , the arrival date 7 time I can call for you the cairo cab services in which you can see on the monitor beside the driver the amount you should exactly pay once you arrive "any how not more than 70 EGP one way "= 12 to 15 $
