Aloha, I'm flying to Sydney this November for 2 short weeks. I want to get up to the Whitsundays. So, from New South Wales up to Queensland what are 3 "must see" places. My sister lives in Syndey and she is planning on travelling up to the Whitsundays with me. ( I think I'm supposed to fly to Arlie Beach and catch a ferry to get to the islands ) We are going to be up in that area for about 5 days. Otherwise, I'm pretty much on my own in NSW. I would ask her for advice but she is no help. She is homesick for California and has not ventured out much past the Sydney area in the last year. It's my plan to get her excited around her new country ( she married an aussie )!
i live in sydney and have been to coffs harbour a few times- its a lovely place with a jetty, the famous big banana, many beaches and its a main town centre. As well as that, near the queensland border, there is byron bay, which i havent visited but i hear has a beach culture and an "alternative" village, relaxed etc!
Hope that helps...the gold coast is also very popular!
A jetty and a big banana.
It sounds too exciting.
Ha ha.....A jetty and a huge banana..?......wow..I'm there.!!!!!
north of Sydney on the border of NSW is Byron bay which is very nice, north of that is the Gold Coast which has great beaches for all purposes and loads of sunshine, about an hours drive inland and slightly north of the gold coast is Brisbane then heading back up the coast is the sunshine coast which also has great beaches for all purposes
Thanks for the advice. I'd love to get up to Byron Bay I'm reading "In A Sunburned Country" righ now. Very funny!
Noosa and the whole "Sunshine Coast" about an hour or so drive north of Brisbane. There's also the Gold Coast (Surfer's Paradise, etc).
In NSW I'd consider Port Stephens and Byron Bay.
But unless you're travlling in Summer, don't be fooled into thinking that the weather in NSW is going to be hot and tropical. The brochures might portray it that way, but that's not reality.
