From what I have been told by my doctors travel clinic, anti-malarials are only needed in Thailand if you go to the Myanmar border area, Koh Samet and Koh Chang. Otherwise you will not need it.

Maybe an idea to visit your doctor or local travel clinic to check it out?

My GP has given me malarone malaria tablets to last me for three days. These are to be taken in case I do get Malaria while I'm travelling around Thailand, Cambodia and Laos in a couple of weeks time. The tablets will last long enough to hold down the malaria till you can find a hospital. Maybe it's worth considering?

My Doc told me to take Malarone when we went to Thailand for a few weeks in the middle of May.

I never took them simply for the fact that the medication can cause some side effects. Malarone isn't supposed to be as bad as Doxycycline, which is known to cause depression, give you horrible dreams and it even causes you to lose your hair.

The people I have spoken to who have taken both told me to not take any as long as I wasn't running around a jungle camping for days at a time.

I suggest odorless repellent....unless you literally are going to be camping out in the mountains/jungle near Chang Mai.

I have a ton of Malarone unused if you need some....is that illegal to sell in a travellers forum?

well the malarone or lariam tablets must be taken BEFORE you get malaria or the mosquito bite... be careful with that... hehe I was in Koh Chang during this weekend without knowing it was a malaria endemic zone... it's good that I took a strong mosquito repelent with me... I will tell you if I get sick :P
