Percentage of views resulting in replies

Travel Forums System Talk Percentage of views resulting in replies

Being a bean counter, I'm always interested in numbers and stats.

What I find interesting with some of the threads is the percentage of people who have viewed a thread and have replied to it.

For instance, some threads get numerous views but not many (in percentage terms) replies, whereas others get a pretty high hit rate eg. "Little Message for Hein" in the "Off Topic" forum. This currently has 63 replies from 427 views - a hit rate of almost 15%. The "Word Association" thread has a hit rate of 21%.

I'm not suggesting you add any further stats, it's just something that I'm interested in - which makes me a boring sod.

From what I've read about you in the "Rumors" thread, you're not a boring sod - possibly misguided - but not boring!!! ;)

ps: Jase has been working out the hits/day on some threads too. Maybe you two should work together on the stats thing - you work so well together in "other" ways!

Me misguided? That's just a rumour

As for getting together with jase007, I don't know if that's such a great idea. In my younger days, it was people like him that I forged great friendships with and hence wasted a lot of time in pubs, clubs, gutters, waking up in strange places, etc. and I can't afford that anymore, either mentally, physically or financially.

Then again....

I am going to sound like a geek here...but, when a thread is featured on the home page, do those threads see a lot more (noticably more) traffic?

I find this numbers thing veryyyy interesting, just don't tell anyone I said that.

Has anyone seen that thread about driving from LA to San Fransisco? Its got a zillion views, but I suppose it has been around a while. Its got a huge number (as I write 23535) of views, but only 19 posts.

The one about the most dangerous country in the world has even more views but only about 90 posts.

Maybe for thread titles like that, they come up if you google, so people will look at them straight away.

I suppose the reason a lot of the Off Topic threads will have a high percentage of replies because many of the visitors are regulars, so are far more likely to reply, especially if its wishing someone well.

I must admit I think its interesting too. If I am starting a new thread, I try to think of a title that says what it is while still getting peoples attention. I wonder what are the best titles?

I have a similarly geeky question that someone might be able to answer, which is the oldest thread still regularly being used? (ie in last 7 days)? Not including sticky ones.

Clarabell - I'd guess the answer to yours is one of the off-topic word association ones. I'm fairly sure that at least one was started by Wocca (who was banned maybe 18mths ago???) so might have even been around for 2years. It's a bit of a cheat though. Relevant/Travelwise, i've no idea, although would suspect an old one like "how many countries have you been to" or similar.
