I travelled round New Zealand in the winter and I don't remember any attractions being closed. Most of the island won't be covered by snow even though they do get it. as for the campervan, I think it would be pretty cold, especially in the far south, but I didn't do it in a campervan so I'm not sure exactly how practical it would be.

hope this helps.

G'day HRICHO,
It was cold - but I didnt find it too cold. Depends what you're used to, and what you're prepared for I guess - admittedly we were on a snowboarding holiday.
Most of the sightseeing places were open - occasionally the glacier walks will close if the weather gets too ugly.
Unfortunately for us, it was a bad year for snow and there wasn't snow over the "whole island" and I doubt that is ever the case.

I suspect occasionally around the higher ground in the South -Queenstown, Dunedin and the like there will be places where the road gets a bit tricky during snowfalls.

Also, Arthurs Pass near Christchurch looks like it could get "interesting" in a heavy snowfall.

Are you renting the campervan or is it yours? Have you compared the cost to hiring a car and sleeping in hotels/motels? I know that in Summer, the second solution is cheaper. We travelled in a campervan in January and it was already a bit cold in the South. We needed the heating and an extra cover so in Winter...
