I am arriving in Cairns on 19 February 2007 with my best friend to travel down the East Coast, and then probably settling in Sydney once our money runs out after maybe 6 months.
Our plan is to see the Whitsundays Islands, Gold Coast, Sunshine Coast, Brisbane, Has anyone done this trip and can suggest places to go/avoid, or is anyone doing this trip at the same time as us?
I live in the Redlands, about an hour from the Gold Coast and 40 minutes from Brisbane city, ive been north a few times I'd be happy to give some help.
Firstly, I personally rather the Sunshine coast to the Gold Coast, the beaches are better, more of a coastal atmosphere. The Gold coast does however have 4 theme parks, Dreamworld, Movie world, Wet 'n' Wild and Sea world.
The Whitsundays are up there with the most beatiful islands I have ever seen. If you really want an escape, try and avoid Hamilton Island, I find its too crowded and built up for a tropical island.
I know its not too much help but they are just quick suggestions, so get some other opinions. If you want more detailed info just msg me and I'll help out as much as i can.
Your gonna have a great time.
gettin to cairns in mid january lookin to travel down east coast too, eventually gettin to sydney then melbourne.
Hey Sarah, my three friends and me are arriving in Cairns in early February, finding some cheap piece of rust with four wheels and then making our way down to Melbourne via all the hot spots so we might bump into some of ye along the way!!

Hey I am from the Sunshine Coast and would definitely recommend going to Noosa. It is a nice spot with beautiful beaches. The national Park is very beautiful. I would also go to the Whitsunday Islands they are amazing. Brisbane is good - some good nightlife and plenty to do durning the day.
All the best...
