Tall_Bird has indicated that this thread is about Australia

I will be landing in Sydney with only £1000 to my name in September (booked one weeks accommodation at Big Hostel). I intend to work as soon as I can with temping agencies etc.

I keep reading about people worried that they only have £3k with them. Making me very nervous - I'm 30 in October, and for me it's now or never, so I'm just taking the plunge! Do you think working with this budget is do-able? Of course I will be staying at a hostel to start with the intention of travelling about for a few months perhaps end of Jan/Feb next year?

Looking for a bit of positive feedback here...please anyone...

Don't worry. If you're not too fussy at the start, you won't have any problems finding work, especially in Sydney. After a while you can be a bit pickier. But actually it's nice to do this and that for a change and not any "serious" work.
I'll keep my fingers crossed. I spent a year travelling all the way around OZ two years back....

Hey, im going to oz at the beginning of November and im only taking around £1350 with me, so not much more than you, im not stressing about it, just stay in hostles, iv been told its quite easy to get a job in Sydney so you should get erning cash quickly.
Hope you enjoy your trip Lv Adele

If I were you I'd be as well prepared as possible. 1000 quid is only about $2400 Aussie dollars. Get as many temp agencies under your belt as possible and even email them your CV just before you leave (like the day before). Don't send a CV that's 4 pages long; if you're going to temp keep it simple. Also make sure you're ready to interview with some smart clothes etc. Despite what people say it's tough to find work in Sydney that time of year. Sure, there's a load of jobs, but there's also about 2000 other working holiday makers arriving every week looking for work and loads already here. Its heading towards xmas which is very lean times for jobs as we all go on holiday. So you have to be good to get the best jobs. Try and get a shared flat as soon as possible as its much cheaper than a hostel.

Keep in mind you'll want to travel and have fun a few nights a week; $2400 is a good start, but you want to have at least that or more to go travelling so savings important.

There's a budget guide here plus another link to finding a job.

I have £1,800 not worrying about it just yet! Also going at end of September for 3 months so hoping that will last me my entire travel along the east coast. Should I be worried?!

This makes me feel a bit better as I'll be taking around £2000s worth and was a bit worried it would be not enough. I'm out there October 2nd starting with OZINTRO in Sydney.

This is quite useful
