Hey, im planning on being in Sydney over christmas and new year, iv heard its really hard to find anywhere to stay at that time of year and you have to book places months in advance. Im planning on staying in hostels, should i book somewhere before i go or chance it and do it when i get out there? Any info would be great, thanks. Adele

Alright,
I was wondering this a while back about Sydney so have looked into it a bit more. Most hostels are already booked up around new year, and 99% of them for new year's eve.
If you are planning on getting to Sydney a few weeks before xmas, then the best option will be to rent a room in an apartment / house, which will also be cheaper.
Im planning on getting to Sydney sometime in November, so i'll probably book into a hostel for the first few nights before moving into an apartment - there are loads around so you wont have a problem finding somewhere.
Have fun!

I would say book now - we booked our hotel/hostel for Christmas in Melbourne & New Year in Sydney back in early March and even then places were starting to become full (l could have got a dorm room anywhere but lm picky and wanted a private room!!).

I would book as soon as! Try the link via TP it puts you through to hostelworld.com which we booked some of our hostels through.

Good luck!

Heather

I was there last Xmas/New year

Id say DEFINATLY dont leave it to chance!
You dont have to book way in advance as some people were still finding hostels in september, but dont leave it any later, and you cant really be fussy either!
Most will require a minimum term, and beware the prices shoot up!

Renting an apartment is a good idea, especially if there are a few of you, but be prepared to have a longer minimum term!

Hope this helps, have fun!
