Travel Forums Europe first time in prague...for a week!

alright, so my friend and i are flying to london, staying there for three nights, then going on to prague for a week. we then have three extra days at the end, and arent sure whether to stay in prague or venture out to a different country and or city.

so my questions to you are these: first off, what to see, do and amuse oneself with in prague for a week. two, about all of this inter city/country traveling...what is the cheapest way. we want to see as much as we can, but travel cost is an issue unfortunately. soooo, let me know what advice or suggestions you guys have about this or anything else!

I have a few recommendations for Prague. They are as follows:

1) Prague Castle and St. Vitrius Cathedral (take your time at this place. Give yourself at least half a day for both combined. Maybe even a little more).
2) Walk through the streets of the river Islands of Kamfa and Mala Strana (very charming islands close to the Charles Bridge)
3) Josefov (Jewish Ghetto)
4) Stare Mesto (Old Town)
5) Petrin Tower on Petrin Hill (Kinda looks like an Eiffel Tower knock-off but offers Great views of Prague)
6) Jazz Boat ride at night down the Vltava river (Visit www.jazzboat.cz for tickets and details).
7) Charles Bridge
8) Make a day trip or overnight trip to Cesky Krumlov to experience classic Bohemia (I’ve heard this is a MUST and not to be missed).
9) To do something offbeat, make a visit to the suburbs of Vyserhaad – it is at the end of one of the metro lines.

Clubbing

1) The 5-floor nightclub right next to Charles Bridge on the city side of the river.

Other important details:

Look up a website for the Prague metro. Prague has metro, buses and trams.

Restaurants:

a) Lotto’s
b) Club Akitektu (yes, this is a restaurant!!!)

7 days is ample time. Make the most of it.

Hope this helps,

Pranav

A wonderful museum is the (Alphonse) Mucha Museum, Panska 7, Prague 1. He was the artist of some very famous commercial posters in the art deco style. You will no doubt recognize his work even if you don't know his name.

Seems like everyone's been to the 5-floor nightclub right next to the Bridge.

Remember to buy a 3 day metro pass when you get to Prague. You'll be able to go to all the tourist destinations in Prague.

My Prague not to be missed are

1. View from Old town hall tower
2. TV tower in Zizkov
3. Vysehrad fort, its the original castle, get the metro there and tram back if hills bother you
4. St Nicholas Church on Mala Strana (big green dome looking down from the castle)
5. Charles Bridge very early in the morning or late at night, its the only time you'll be alone on there.
6. Kolkovna restaurant/ pub on the corner of V Kolkovne about 5 mins from Old town square
this is on top of your other recommendations

Outside Prague, Olomouc has a nice university town feel to it. Cesky Krumlov is beautiful and Ceske Budejovice is worth a night. For walking and scenery bohemian switzerland and cesky raj.
