My wife and I are planning a 12 day trip to Europe next year and need some advice to get started. We are only 24, so we still want to experience some of the typical backpacking Europe stuff like riding the trains, staying in hostels, and meeting other travellers, but also want some of the comfort and privacy that a couple needs. Does anyone ever run into couples staying in hostls? Are the private doubles really private? Do any hostels have private bathrooms?
We are thinking of just concentrating on France and Spain for the 12 days. We really want to see Barcelona, and Paris plus we are also interested in seeing some of the French wine regions. Any suggestions for the itenerary or accomodations?
Unfortunately I do not know much about private romms in hostels, but I have to say it's nice to see that you care about it, because I've often not been able to sleep in hostels because in the next bed there were couple not having problem with sex in 10-bed rooms...I mean, a little bit of respect does not hurt anybody, no?
But you definitely chose too great countries. Barcelona is clearly one of the most beautiful cities I've seen (in my opinion, way more enjoyable than Madrid). Still, we were there with a small group of travellers, and three got robbed in 4 days, so u have to be careful there...but it is like this everywhere, no? But Spanish people are really nice with tourists people, and you absolutely have to travel to Andalusia, which is wonderful and rich of history. And what about the beaches...
Wish you a great trip, but that will be the case for sure
My ex and I spent 5 weeks travelling round Europr together and staying in hostels. For the most part we stayed in dorms with other people (which I prefer anyway as meeting fellow travellers is all part of the fun) but managed to get a corregated iron shack of our own at a campsite in Venice! I'd say the majority of people I met on my travels were lone wanderers or friends, but we definitely met a few other couples. As for privacy, it really does depend which hostel you chose. We chose ours based on price and location, but if having a room to yourselves is top of your list, I'm sure there will be plenty out there to accommodate you. Try looking on BUG hostel reviews to get some ideas.
