Hello!

I'm going to Istanbul 24.-31.07.2006.

I have a few questions that I didn't manage to find answers to, I was hoping some of you might help me.

Are there (m)any TaxFree shops in Istanbul?
Are there (m)any ISIC student card (or other student card - which one?) discounts?
Do I have to pay to enter a mosque in non-praying time (I'm a Muslim)?
Where should I buy a belly dancer costume and what is a reasonable price for it?

That's it for now, I'll edit this post to add more questions if they come up on the way (and I'm sure they will). Thanx in forward to everyone.

Hi Jasmina,
1.Yes, there are tax free shops in Istanbul, at the airport, in all the malls, and almost all around the place. Thay will have tax freestickers at the entrance.
2. I don't know about the student dicount cards.
3. No, you don't have to pay anything to the mosques for entering (even if you are NOT a Muslim).
4. You can buy the Touristy (not specially designed) ones for under 100 YTL in the Grand Bazaar (Kapali Carsi) in Eminonu. They are all around the place, eveerywhere! :) I don't know where you can find the better, specially designed ones..

Have a good trip!
Cheers,
Ayca

Hi there!

1- At touristic places there are many taxfree shops. Elsewhere you can reclaim the tax you paid at the airport, assuming you kept the receipts.

2- I am not familiar with these cards, you might want to check elsewhere online.

3- As long as you take off your shoes and wear a headscarf, you can enter freely anytime you like.

4- You can also mix and match a costume (veils, ornamental belly chains, see-through sequined scarves etc) if you are willing to spend the time, and I guess it would come out even cheaper :)
