Beckiefitz has indicated that this thread is about Australia

My partner and I are already in Australia and...we need some friends!! Have been working in Sydney for 4 months now (coming from UK) and still have no social life. We haven't done the backpacker thing as we are late 20's and early 30's...can you suggest anything, anyone??? We're going crazy!!

Hi!
I am coming to australia in the middle of august, but thats probably too long for you to wait. hehehe
I have heard that living at hostels etc will help you get in touch with people. Sorry, dont have any experience myselfe... But I am really looking forward to go

Hope you find what you are looking for.

Big hello from Norway:)

This is my worry for when I'm out there.
Can you not go out with the people from work? Or try to join some night time activity clubs? Dancing or gym or whatever you like, anywhere you can meet people basically.
Maybe if you're living there have a kind of house warming party & invite people from work & get them to bring friends along, to start something off. Sorry I really don't know what to suggest.
Hope you both find something soon. Thinking of you! xx

Well my girlfriend and myself had the same problem, well we thought we were going to, but we were lucky in that Perth seems to be alot more socialable and easy going. It is quite tough being a couple, especially if you are not staying in hostels or are actually on the road travelling. The only suggestion would be to get the TNT in Sydney have a look whats going on socially and get involved. I stayed in Manly on my own for four months and did look abit of a clown when I first went to the pub on my own, but it worked in the end, people spoke to me, although it may have been through pitty!

Got to agree with Malone, come to Perth.

Why not join some kind of social event? My wife and I started Latin dancing last year, since then we have gone rock climbing, scuba diving, travelling and parties galore with the people we have met. And we just went there to learn how to dance!

Or join a sporting team, that's always a good place to start.

Try inviting one or two of your workmates out for after work drinks on a Friday night. I find that nothing gets organised at my work if I don't do it myself, but there are always heaps of people to join you once you start it up.
