I want to visit Ban Lung but id like to avoid traveling both directions along the Mekong. From what I can tell my options to avoid backtracking would be to either fly out of Ban Lung or enter into Cambodia from Vietnam near Ban Lung. My map shows a road from Ban Lung to Vietnam, does anyone know if you can enter Cambodia via this road? If so, can I get a Cambodian visa at this border crossing?
Any other thought?
You cannot get to Ban Lung from Vietnam...only route is Stung Treng- Ban Lung, or Kratie-Ban Lung....the road is painfully bumpy, and during the rainy season (Sept onwards),brace yourself!
From Kratie is about 300km,and bad all the way, from Stung treng, about 100 km shorter....anyway from 11-13 hrs from Kratie, and about 9 hrs from Stung Treng, depending on road condition.
if you want to avoid back tracking, go by road one way, and take the flight the other way......PMT Air (U4) flies to Ban Lung on Monday, and Wednesday. The flight time is about 1 hour. Departure time from Phnom Penh is 10.00 a.m. US$100 one-way and US$180. roundtrip. Airport tax : US$6.- at Phnom Penh airport; and US$4.- ban lung.
