Hi my boyfriend and i are travelling with a RTW ticket in Sept staying mostly in OZ and NZ. So far everyone i have talked to about this experience has told me that we will find it really hard to meet new people as couples are unapproachable- is this true? has any other couples had this problem.
If there are any other couples worrying about this too perhaps we could meet? We will be in Perth from Sept 13th for a couple of wks before campervanning up the West coast.
If anyone has any advise suggestions please let me know. thanks in advance. X

Not really - I spent 15 months travelling with my girlfriend and we met loads of people, a lot of whom I'm still in contact with. Just be open and friendly, smile and say hello to people. 9 times out of 10 they'll smile and say hello back! Get involved with group activites as well, rather than just doing stuff as a couple.

One thing to watch out for tho - travelling with a partner is liked a normal relationship in fast-forward! You're generally in each others pocket 24/7, so little things can become big things very quickly...! So try to be as honest and open as poss (even more than usual!) and it's not a bad idea to go off and do things away from each other sometimes, just for a bit of space. :)

Good luck - sounds like a cool trip!

My Girlf and i are also travelling RTW together in Sept and will be in NZ oct-Dec and Oz from Dec - May... Must say i am a bit worried about it!
All you can do is enjoy yourselves and be as friendly as possible. If you are still in Oz by Christmas.. we should meet up!

i cant wait either.. i handed my notice in at work two months ago and ever since have been shunned by the powers that be.. but that has pretty much allowed me free reign to plan our trip to Oz etc! Christmas in the sunshine... heaven or what?

What are all your plans for NYE?? I hear the little party near the bridge in Sydney is popular.. couple of fireworks n all??

Apparently so may just have to take that in!! Funny you should mention that lve been reading up about the NYE events and there are so many vantage points to watch the proceedings l dont know which to go for plus some areas are BYO booze others dont allow it and its available to buy. Im just concerned (prob too strong a word!) that if we go to a point where you have to buy your booze it will cost an arm & leg, yet if we bring our own how are we gonna keep it chilled! Cos l think we realistically need to be at our view point by 4pm - 5pm to get a spot. And l hope there's other entertainment on and about cos l get board really easily and 8hrs plus in one location is a very long time - plus could end up pissed and missing everything!

I must admit that NYE hasnt crossed my mind... the fireworks are a must though so may have to plan around being near the bridge for Midnight

Weekend will be spend reading up i suppose and booking somewhere to stay (if there is anywhere left!)
