My wife and I did a six month trip last year and found that meeting other people wasn't too much trouble. You're obviously not as likely to meet people as you would be if you were travelling alone, but we hooked up with several people - both singles and couples - throughout Europe, Asia ans OZ/NZ.

Needles does make a very valid point about travelling as a couple though. In a relationship, two weeks of travelling is probably the equivalent of a year at home. On our six month journey the two of us were apart for a grand total of seven hours - five hours one day in Paris and two hours in Ao Nang in Thailand. Yes, you read that right - seven hours apart over a six month period! The only problems we ever had involved four wheels and a map, but that's pretty much par for the course wherever we go. If you ever feel a fight coming on, a little separation may be just what the doctor ordered.

Have to say travelling as a couple was very easy in OZ and NZ, both in terms of meeting people and being able to spend some time apart when needed. Spent New Year in Wanaka which was particularly good and lots of people who made it a great time.

Hi

I'm at the start of our journey and adventures travelling with my boyfriend.
Already 2 months into an 18 month trip we've met more people than we could possibly imagine.
It's boils down to effort. Obviously because you are already in a group or couple it's quite easy to stay that way, depending on your level of extroversy you may need to branch out to make the effort but we've found it's been very well received.

Good luck

NYE in Sydney is fantastic! Do not worry about rain - it's the least of your problems! I was there this year and it was around 38 degrees at 5pm! We were so hot! We booked a place about 8 months beforehand on the harbour in a boat, well worth the money. I think it cost around 300 dollars but we got food and drink all night. Very expensive but great view and fab fun! There is a block party somewhere in Sydney's CBD as well which lasts all night and is meant to be incredible. Enjoy!!
