the only thing I don't have an exact price for yet is the transport costs in both countries.

Will this work?

Frank,
A traveller staying in fan rooms and eating where locals do, will spend appox. $10-15USD/day. Sticking with bus transport and share taxis, your transport costs will not take you over your budget. I spend about $600USD/month in VN, Cam. & Thailand. I am a veggie and don't drink anything but water, so my costs tend to be lower than my mates when traveling around SEA.

Your 1K Canadian should be enough if you stay out of the bars and don't fall in love with one of those Thai beauties!

If this $1000 Canada does not include airfare from Canada it might work.

If I am right, I think this will convert to just over 1000 baht a day. This should be able to cover your food, hotel and local transportation expenses if you are not extravagant and you settle for cheaper hotels. It will be tight if you are not careful.

You do have to have a credit card or some way of getting extra money if an emergency comes up. You will have to budget a little to pay for bus fare between cities or use your emergency money.

If it was me I would make an extra $500 available, after flying 10,000 miles you ought to make the trip something to remember! This will give you some flexibility in what you plan.

$1000 canadian is definetly doable IF your not counting plane tickets. however like frosty said i would try and come up with a little bit more spending money. your likely to find some form of entertainment thats more than free if you plan on being there for a month.

Hi Trupioneer

Your budget works out to about USD880, and that's a lot for your sojourn in Thailand & Cambodia. I have travelled through Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Laos for a month with just USD500...moving around like a local & had a fair share of fun ( a bit of booze & bars and err.... ) but certainly not, as Vegasmike said falling in "love with one of those Thai beauties"...well, not just Thai but Cambodian, Laotian or Viet! You are seen as mobile ATM machines by them!

Thx everyone for your replies.

Yeah, I'm interested more getting around like the locals than luxuries.

So, I guess $1000 CAD should be enough for me.
