i would dearly love some advice on where how and when i should travel over europe.
im attracted to the med countries
i have 2/3 months to travel around and i simply cannot wait this is a major dream of mine and im so excited i could just...... ahhhh scream
if anyone has backpacked around these countries i would loooooove some feedback on where to start and i what costs im lookin at...
if you wanna come in florence(italy), i suggest you september/october instead of summertime, there're too much tourists at the moment
In Greece you should definitely see Athens! You can take the ferry from Patras in Italy to Brindisi in Greece if you go that way and then catch a train to Athens. When i went we waited to take the train till the night which meant that the train was a little less packed, but still very very crowded and guard yourself for one of the worst train journeys ever unless it has changed since 2002 After athens you can take a metro type train down to Pireaus where you can catch ferries to the islands. We went to Paros which is a lovely little island and pretty cheap when it comes to accomondation (from here you can also get a boat to antiparos). After Paros we went to Patmos which is rather boring to be honest and then at last to Samos, but only because it was the best option to catch a boat to Turkey from!
Hope this helped a little bit!
Good luck and enjoy your travel!
Last summer I took a month long trip to Italy, France, Greece and Germany.
We started in Greece and took the ferry from Patras to Bari in Italy. We stayed in Italy for almost 2 weeks and visited Rome, Pisa, Florence and Venice.
We took a night train from Venice to Nice and stayed in Nice, Angouleme, Carcassonne, Paris and Strasbourg.
If you need help with any of these places, just send me a message..
Early June and September are best. It's just outside the high season, the weather is not too hot to make travelling (especially backpacking) uncomfortable, but still nice enough for a swim in the Med. Spring is better if you want to camp, as after a a long hot summer the countryside is try as tinder. There have been some severe forest fires in the last years. They had to evacuate all tourists in Southern Portugal one year, as they all were in high danger of dying in the fire.
I would like to suggest that you include a Morocco and or Tunisia into your list too. They are Med countries and easy to reach by ferry from Italy or Spain. You could do a roundtrip - start in Morocco, go to Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, (Tunisia, Malta, Italy,) Greece and Cyprus.
Plan to take at least 45 EUR (54 USD) per day, but better bring 60 EUR (72 USD) per day. You'll need them. So around 5000 USD plus flights and plus train and bus tickets, coming to maybe 9000 USD total including a flight to Europe from another continent. See www.eurail.com and www.eurolines.com as well as www.skyscanner.net.
BTW, what nationality are you? Your profile says Kenya - if that is the passport you hold, you'll have a very hard time getting a Schengen visa. You won't be getting it unless money is no problem for you.

thank u thank u thank u SO much for all the advice, i appreciate it. wow sounds amazing. cant wait to do this.you guys are soooo lucky having done it all. that was really great advice. the visa shouldnt be a problem cos even though i have a kenyan passport, they issue shenegan visas out. its just a procedure takes about a week or so.i had a shengegen visa last year when i went to amsterdam.but its now expired
are all of those countries listed part of the shenegen??
thank so much guys for the replies!
Italy, France, Spain, Greece, Portugal are all part of Schengen. You'll need seperate visa for Morocco, Tunisia, Malta and Cyprus.
