Last year when we were in Bangkok we met an Indian lady that told she regularly gets the train from Bangkok to India (not sure where but I presume somewhere in the North). Does anyone know if this possible, the route take, destination in India, any info really about doing this trip. I have looked around the Web but I can't seem to find any information.

Actually there is a way to cross over to Thailand not by train but by road.
You cross over from the North East part of India into Rangoon, Burma. And then take the train from Rangoon to Bangkok.
If you are a travel nut, you can go all the way to Singapore for that matter!!!
check The dark blue line is a train route.

Thanks for all the help guys.

Pinkistar, you may be attempting this trip before me. We are not even expecting to arrive to S.E. Asia until November next year (S.America, Australia and NZ first). I will let you know if I find any info though as it is a trip we really want to do. The Indian lady I mentioned owns a souvenir shop on Sukumvit in Bangkok near Soi 11 so maybe I will go back and ask her.

There are much easier (and probably cheaper) ways of getting from Bangkok to India (namely flying). I went on Cathay Pacific from Bangkok to Mumbai - much better than a train!
