Has anyone heard of 'tribewanted.com'?
I have just joined up and basically is a community set up on an Island just off of Fiji. There are a max of 5000 people and only 100 people on the Island at one time. You get to help build on the island, voice you opinion and even name it - talking on the forum. There will also be a web-cam set up. It all starts in Sept this year and goes on for 3yrs.It is fairly cheap and you get a choice of 1,2,or 3yrs membership with either 1,2 or 3wks on the Island. Come on people get on it and meet me there!!! It will be great fun!!
Oh dear sounds like i have been a bit of an idiot to have not researched a little more. Oh well can't do much about if now so will just have to hope things go ok and as i am planning on going next year hopefully there will still be enough money!! Even so i really can't get my head around the fact that a company with such a good reputatation as STA have are backing the project!
If you sent a check, could you stop payment on it? Or if you used a credit card, maybe you can cancel? Good luck!
Here in the Netherlands we have something called the "law for buying at a distance", which basically says that as a consumer you have the right to come back upon the purchase of any good or service which you didn't see directly (so everything you buy over the internet or mailorder) during the first seven days after purchase (or maybe after receiving it).
If the UK has a similar law, I'd say it applies and you can make use of it.

Has anyone approached STA Travel regarding this? I followed that link, and then another to the "jem report", but in his writings regarding this I haven't found a mention of checking up with STA.
I have just come back from Vorovoro, Tribewanted is amazing. I had a once in a life time experience. Im planing on going back.
