Hi there.

what kind of organized tour? I am working in a travel agency in thailand and we do lots of incoming group both for leisure and incentive. Probably, I could give you some idea about planing the trip.

Nicola,
I guarantee you will find a dozen other UK ladies doing exactly what you are planning if you spend 2 days in the Khao San Road area of BKK.
You really don't need a tour group to travel around Thailand. There are thousands of BPers your age doing this. You won't be alone for long in the KSR area. Chat with others at your guesthouse, at the restaurants, shopping, travel shops, etc. At that time of year there will other TP members in Thailand as well that you can join up with.

Come on Nicola, you are not that wimpy. Get out there girl and spread your travel wings!

Are you looking for an organized tour to handle you for the entire trip from arrival to departuare? If so, this is an expensive way to go!

Tours are easy to sign up for AFTER you arrive in Bangkok (most big cities like Pattaya, Phuket and Chiangmai also!) There are travel agencies all over the place, walk in and check out their menu of available tours.

The tour companies pick you up at your hotel and return you back to that hotel. It's pretty simple to do. When you purchase your tours from overseas you usually end up paying more for them.

If you are early you can sign up for a tour in the morning for an afternoon or evening tour. There are single day tours, overnight tours and extended tours available. You can do it on your own!

Even some hotels have a special desk or person who arranges tours for you, even this is usually cheaper than purchasing a tour from your home country. However, the tours sold by hotels are almost always more expensive than the tours you get on your own walking into a travel agency. (A tour sold by a hotel may even end up on the same bus or van with other tourists who paid less at a travel agency!)

Read up on Thailand before you leave home and plan your tours out ahead of time. DON'T fly into Bangkok and fly out immediately on the next available flight you can get! Spend a day or two in Bangkok, get caught up with the time changes, heat, sleep and take a shower!
