Hi,

I've been looking for somewhere to go for months now. I know of someone who went off on a year long working holiday in Australia for a year with £4000 in his bank...

I'm looking to do something similar, only I have just less than £3000. I would like to go away for at least five months to somewhere totally different from the UK. I don't mind working while I'm over there if I need to...

Australia is very appealing, but then, so is much of Africa.

I would ideally like to stay somewhere for as long as possible (like Oz), get a job, and rent a room, just so I can experience a different way of life.

I don't speak any other languages, and I don't really have a way of getting much more money.

If anyone has any ideas, please let me know!

Thanks.

Why not get a working holiday visa for Oz then?

how much money do i have to have in my bank before I could get a visa though?

On their website they say 5000 (fivethousand) AUD minimum + plus paid for flight ticket. Makes roughly 2800-3000 GBP together, depending upon what kind of deal you can get on your flight.

Rob,
Have you thought of Vietnam? Very little chance of working, but you can easily stay in VN for $300-400/month. You could stay spend 5-6 months there and not spend half of your bankroll. There is also a chance you could get involved in teaching English once there and meeting other ex-pats. Good Luck.

How safe is it in Vietnam? are the people friendly and welcoming? And what is it like travelling solo there?

I have a book from the library about SE asia, and it doesnt say too much about VN. The prices are extremely appealing though! For the cost of living there, I wouldn't need to work anyway.

How do visas work over there, if I wanted to stay for two to three months?
