billybliss has indicated that this thread is about Australia

I'm planning to travel to Australia in Sept this year or Feb 05, my passport runs out in June 06, is it possible to re-new my passport now incase i decide to expand my travels or do I have to wait untill it runs out before I re-new it? Can anyone help? Cheers.

I believe that you have to wait until your passport's expiration date is within 6 months to get a renewed one.... Unless you lose your current one or it is disfigured beyond use... or I think there is a new rule permitting a new passport if your appearance has changed dramatically including drastic weight loss, sex change operations, or serious plastic surgery.

This is the basic rundown of US and Canadian passport rules, the UK I would guess is similar though

Kelly, ï wouldn't worry about it being so far ahead. I think UK allows 12 months ahaead if you can demonstrate you may not be able to get it sorted closer the time because you'll be somewhere remote, but about 8months is more normal (many countries refuse entry with less than 6months, so you can't wait that long).

However with so long left (even from planned departure) you should be ok, and you can always get it reknewed in Australia/new Zealand etc in the embassy whilst your there if you do plan to extend yor travels (or even if you don't).

It's less hassle (and in some cases, cheaper) to do it at an embassy as opposed to through the Passport Office anyway!!
