Only thing I can say is go for it!!

I am in the process of changing careers just so I can emigrate. I'm leaving Financial Advice and re-training as... a plumber!

I'm biased but Melbourne is my favourite place in the whole of Australia.... but Gold Coast would be good too. Depends if you prefer a city and a more English climate (although not much like England!). I would prefer Melbourne.

Good luck in what you decide.. its a brave move, but you wouldn't regret it I'm sure. What a beautiful place to bring up your family!

Im an aussie living just out of Sydney. Its an impossible question really as it totally depends what you are into!
Sydney is expensive if you want to live near the city. But its a great place if u like all the exciting events and cultural stuff. So is melbourne, but I dont like the weather there. The Gold Coast is quite different again and, tho the weather is great if u like it hot and summery, its very touristy and not cheap either.
Do you want to be close to the city???
If u like quieter towns that are more English in weather and environment, look into Tasmania- its very pretty and still very affordable.
What about Perth? Its affordable and a great city.
Do you need beaches? Land? Mountains? We got it all so take your pick! But Australia is a huge place, so its impossible to say where will suit your needs, wants and finances!

If you're coming from the UK I'd go to the Gold Coast or Brisbane or Sunshine coast area. The weathers great, its cheaper than both Melbourne and Sydney, it's the fastest growing economy in Australia (in the East; Perth out west is overall the fastest). Its also great for families.

I am an Australian living in Sydney (but I have lived in Canberra, Melbourne and Brisbane). I think it all depends on what you like.

Sydney - Very expensive, busy ..but has beautiful beaches and great out door life.

Melbourne - Very 'Four seasons weather'. A fantastic arts, culture and cafe lifestyle. I also think Melbourne is a great place for families, lots of parks, day trips, community events, etc.

Brisbane - HOT HOT HOT in summer and the beach is 1 hours drive... but a fantastic city, a very young population and great outdoor lifestyle.

Gold Coast - Lots of tourists, HOT HOT HOT in summer, but beautiful beaches...

At the end of the day it all depends on what your lifestyle focus is. Good Luck and I hope you enjoy living in Australia !!!
