I am flying into Bejing and flying out of Shanghai on January of the new year (during my RTW trip), I have about 20 days to spend in China. What are your recommendations to see between those two areas? Is it worth it to go into the interior or is it better just to stay along the coast? I only speak English, any recommendations - how hard is it to get around with no knowledge of the language? What is the best way of getting a visa for China (possibly getting it while I am abroad in Oz)? I really appreciate any help people can lend.
In Beijing, you can visit these places: Great Wall, Forbidden Palace, Tian An Men, Summer Palace, Hu Tong area.
For Shanghai, go to: Pudong area, French concession, Yu Yuan garden, the muzium, Nanjing Walking St.
Fr Shanghai, you can also take a day trip to some water village like Zhou Zhuang.
If u still have time and dun mind taking trains, go to Xi'an(approx. 8hrs) or Nanjing(approx. 8hrs) fr Beijing.
Some ppl there speaks a little English. You can refer to the hotel reception for info and helping you to write in Chinese for reference. Sometimes, tour guide service is available.
For visa, I thk you need to go the Chinese Embassy to do the visa. They will also hold your passport for processing purpose.
