IM soooo happy to have found this site, there are so many questions already answered for me. Im leaving Paris after six years in september, I have given up my job and everything and im heading down under with a working holliday visa. My friends think im mad, but being Irish i miss the nature sooo much, I know i will be spoiled in australia for some fresh air:). Im a graphic designer, and im hoping to continue my profession while im there, Can anyone tell me is it as difficult as eveyone says to get a good job? or does it depend on the profession,
Thanks

I was under the impression it is pretty hard to find work as a graphic designer - I have a friend who just went to England to try because she was having bugger all luck here :D - but if you have experience I'd imagine it's much easier. There seems to be a lot of graduates around struggling to find entry-level positions anyway.
Also, it might be worth joining something like Arts Hub (it costs money, but they used to let you have a free trial membership for a couple of weeks). There's also Seek and My career for jobs, so maybe have a search and see how much is available in the area you want to work?

Hey! i'm also considering moving out to Oz or NZ and working for a while before doing a rtw trip... How long did it take to get hold of your visa? I'm also a little concerned about getting work once i'm out there but I guess it shouldn't be too hard to get bar work or something similar to keep you going whilst looking for a proper job during the day. Anyone else been in a similar situation trying to find work down under?

Um.. I also tried to look up some jobs in Oz last year, but since I"m in the traffic engineering field. I didn't see any good chance awaiting for me to go there. But I think it really depends on your profession, coz I was able to see quite some openings in the I.T. field. So, if you're a graphic designer, I think you can find a good job <at least much more chances than me :p> in Oz.

Good Luck ^^
