Was wandering if anyone here has ever done a cage dive off Cape Town, South Africa. If so, is it worth it? ie what are the chances of being surrrounded by sharks in Dec/Jan. Where are the best places to go? I would have thought Seal Island?

For great whites you can drive to Gansbaai, about 120 km from Cape Town and do a cage dive in shark alley. Its been the subject of several documentarys on them. A few companies in Cape Town go there and provide transportation each way for a nominal cost. The water is cold but not nearly as cold as on the Atlantic side of the cape. That is where seal island is and that is what attracts the sharks. I did one of the dives in June and there were lots of shark in sizes from 6 to 18 feet in length and they come very close to the cages, even brushing up against them at times if you are lucky. Its a great experience, they are magnificent creatures. There are quite a number of tour operators that offer this experience but I would go with a local one if you can find one.
Just make sure they are going out near the island and not near any waters that also feature swimming.
