To be honest you will be best stayin out of haad rin due to reports of robberies in haad rin while the party is on (see lonely plane t guide). If you stay a bit further up the island its lovely and very safe there and taxi`s run to and from the party throughout the night.

We were Koh Phangan mid June and we stayed on Haad Yuan (10 minute longtail ride East of Haad Rin)... so much better than Haad Rin! We stayed at a place called Big Blue and both the rooms and the people were amazing! It's a really nice and relaxing place... The rooms were 350 Bahts with fans and private bathrooms and a longtail ride to Haad Rin was 100 Baht.

Done a couple of full moon myself and have to agree with staying away from Haad Rin. I have satyed at Baan Tai a couple of times in a Resort kinda bugelows right on the beach for like 400 baht. It was called the Chokana Resort. The staff were wicked and the beach was godd. Take a look. Rip it up at the full moon.
Cheers

i'm trying to head there tomorrow, not sure tho, whats the normal way to get there from bangkok?

where do you get flights etc? all the travel agents i've gone to say they dont do flights and accomodations to koh phangnan

right now i'm on koh san road, i figure this place must be common for ppl who go to koh phangnan right?

I stayed in Baan Tai too, at a resort called Mac Bay (http://www.macbayresort.com/). It was a nice place with cheap and clean accomodations and there were tons of taxis going to and from Had Rin on the night of the full moon. If you're there for a while you can even catch a half moon party (much smaller than the full moon party) right on Baan Tai.

Zachary: I got there by overnight train from Bangkok (I don't remember the station's name but it's a 30 minute walk south from Khao San) to Surat Thani, bus ride to the ferry terminal, then ferry to Samui, taxi from Na Thon to Big Buddha (there was a storm and the main Samui-Phangan ferry was cancelled) and finally on to Had Rin on Phangan via "speed" boat. It was quite the long trip and in retrospect I should have flown Bangkok to Samui and gone by speedboat (anyone who's taken the trip knows I'm using that term loosely) from Big Buddha to Phangan. That'll get you Bangkok to Phangan in 3 or 4 hours instead of 18 or 20. Bangkok to Samui flights were in the 2300 baht range ($75 canadian) when I was there about 18 months ago.

We went to the full moon in June and stayed at Salad Beach Resort. It was SO beautiful! We really enjoyed ourselves. Here's the website: http://www.sawadee.com/hotel/kohphangan/saladbeach/

We "treated" ourselves in Koh Phanang - (otherwise doing the dirty hostel/guesthouse thing) but it was well worth it on Sunday when we were nursing some pretty harsh hang-overs and spent the day in our clean and very comfortable King sized bed. Sigh....that was a lovely bed.
