I want to spend a month in OZ next springtime. I'm on a limited budget (about £1000) and want to see as much as possible - especially the west coast - would i be better doing a hop on/off tour like the Oz Experience or would i be able to do it on my own cheaper?
The Oz Experience "recently" got new owners, but unless they introduced massive price cuts compared to the previous kiwi experience owners (which I doubt), it's far and far cheaper to do things by yourself.
In New Zealand they are/were 30%-40% more expensive than taking regular public transport, plus push you into doing tons of expensive activities.
I can't offer advice from experience, but my friend and I booked our trip to oz today (yay!!), including the oz experience coach ride from cairns to melbourne. although it was £395 as opposed to greyhounds £195, the stuff it did include did amount to more than the difference between the two. Also from the lady we booked it through, she said that oz experience act more as a 'club rep' sort of person telling you whats there to do, where to go, where to stay etc, whereas the greyhound ppl don't. hope this helps
Hiya! I've also booked the oz experience from Cairns to Melbourne and doing this is Sept, can't wait. Never been travelling on my own before but done a lot of research and this looks like the best way to do it for me. Means freedom and advice if I need it, we are not going to be supervised all the time!!! Lot's of room for crazy girly nights! I think to a certain extent it will work out cheaper but it depends on what activities you get involved in. Remember you get what you pay for and if you don't, you get a very stroppy letter!
