We are looking for a sunny island to spend our 30th wedding anniversary. Please see below for what we would like:
Safe for Americans
all-inclusive hotel (on a budget)
inexpensive shopping/food
sandy beaches
not your most common area's (cancun etc)
Also, the best time of year weather wise to visit.
Thanks for your input.

The Whitsunday islands off the North East coast of Australia could be worth while looking into. There a alot of islands so im sure there would be quite a few secluded areas around. The best time to visit would be from April through to November. Make sure you check out the reed whislt your there

you could also check out the Cocos Keeling islands(very sucluded)

Canary Islands, Madeira or the Azores are very nice.

The Canary Islands are part of Spain and a very touristy place. They deserve it, as the Gulf Stream warms up the Atlantic and some of the beaches on Fuerteventura are the largest in Europe. Soft white sand. Look for a Riu hotel, they are the best IMO. Uunfortunately these hotels are usually part of a package tour from Europe. So best book through a large travel agency, as this is the only way you'll get a Riu hotel on the cheap. Best time to visit is from June to September. It can get very hot during the day in summer (85-105F), but you don't feel it as it is always windy. Since it is Europe, it is not that cheap.

Another recommendation is Southern Croatia around Dubrovnik. Nice sandy beaches, charming islands just off the coast and cheaper than the Canaries.

And since we are already in the area: Greece has many charming little islands. Mid-September is the best time to go, as the main season is over, prices have gone down and the heat is not so bad anymore.
