I have just booked a flight into Xiamen. From there i want to take the train to Shanghai and then catch a flight to Lhasa so that i can take the new train East to Beijing, making the nessecary stops of course. But it just hit me that i am not sure if i could get my Tibetan "Visa" at the airport upon arrival in Lhasa or do i have to have that sorted by time i get on my flight. Also has anyone booked through elong.net. i was told about it and it seems to have some decent prices to fly around China. Cheers, thanks for all you endless help.

You need to get your permit to visit Tibet before you board the plane to go to Tibet. You can get it easily in any Chinese city or ahead of time via internet, etc., they (tour company or cits) hook you up on a fake tour, putting your name with others so it looks like you're part of a group. Just get a cheap package, like the permit & your first night's hotel in Lhasa, if you want to save some money and remain flexable.

When are you planning on going?

I fly into Xiamen tomorrow and then a couple of days later will make my way to Shanghai. Then i will catch a flight to Lhasa after i have sorted everything out. Maybe 10 days in Lhasa and surrounding areas. I would like ot make it to base camp. But we will see how it goes. Thanks for the info. Are you heading to Tibet?
