I am a girl from Norway going to Australia in August.
Is there anybody who have any good advice they want to pass on?
It could be anything from "what to pack" to "budget" and "work" etc.
I am really excited about this trip and can`t wait to get there :o)
Does anybody know for how long people usually stay in Australia when they have the option to be there for 12 months?
Hope for loads and loads of comments :o)
Big hello from Norway :o)
I am still excited about this trip, but starting to get a bit worried as I am travelling alone. Does anyone have good advice for a lonely traveller?
Anybody else going to austrailia in mid august?
Hiya! I'm a local - live in Melbourne, Victoria. Just a few short responses to your questions as no one's answered :P Most of this info relates to Melbourne - other places will be subtly different.
What to pack: Some warm clothes, esp if you're down around the Eastern Coast/Bottom side. Brisbane and Cairns are still fairly balmy (warm and pleasant) even in winter.
A snowboard if you're like me and love the snow!!
Budget: The backpacker places aren't too much I don't think. $15-$20 a night? Not 100% sure - I don't stay there too often :P
Work: Hospitality spots are usually easy to get if you've got English under your belt. A lot of places around St Kilda seem to have tourists working there for 3-6 months.
Lonely? Well, we're all pretty friendly around here And no the guys don't just go trying to pull you around, Scandanavian or no (I read some of your profiles)
I'll be leaving here to go to Japan Mid-August strangely enough. So won't be here when you arrive.
Anyhows. That's a little bit there to help you out maybe.
First things first, you will have an amazing time. I went out 2 years ago and travelled the whole of Australia, I saw the most amazing things and met the coolest people. I'm just saving up now to go back out to Oz, Nz and Thailand.
Advise, don’t make too many plans because they will change constantly as you move around and meet new people, who knows what will happen hey!
You will probably stay the duration, I stayed the full year of the Visa, I met loads of people that refused to leave and stayed over theirs. As for going by yourself Janne, seriously don’t worry about it. Hostels in Oz are like English Bed and Breakfasts (if you have ever been to one) but usually with swimming pools and bars there excellent hang-outs. I travelled with friends I met over there, friends from home and sometimes by myself. But whereever you go you will make friends in no time at all. I regularly keep in contact with loads of people I met when away. Some that I think I will probably know for the rest of my life...
Anyways have a blast Janne, your gonna love it!
