Hello there, it's my first post and unfortunately it's a request for assistance. I've been avidly going through the pages and getting info together as I know many people have done very similar to this...
Will be flying into Bangkok mid Oct, and out of Bangkok mid Jan (with my then to be wife). That bit I know - it's just the little matter of filling in the gap...! Am hoping to head from Bangkok into Cambodia, then to Vietnam, then Laos and finish with 3-4 weeks in Thailand.
Can anybody suggest me an itinery to get the most benefit from the time and see lots of lovely things?! The last section in Thailand will be to chill out a little, but I don't know exactly how to split my time between the other 3 countries and for an absolute newbie there's such a barrage of info on where to go and what to see - I don't really know where to start.
Any help would be hugely appreciated. Thanks.
I can suggest an itinerary based on my experience of travelling through these countries -Thailand,Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos ( and back to Thailand). I have done it both ways - Thailand into Laos, etc. Will be pleased to turn over the itinerary but you must know that it's a back packer's trip - putting up in GHs, travelling by buses, etc. You can, of course, modify - for example, skip the road trip from Hanoi to Vientiane and opt for flight. It all depends how your wife to be looks at it.
If this is okay with you, then send me a PM or your e-mail.
Interested in further responses too.
Hi Dana or Klim,
I am interested in exactly same rout (without additional 3-4 weeks in Thailand at the end), even in the same time period.
Would you forward the itenerary to my e-mail address as well?
I am definitely a budget traveller ;o)
My e-mail: -snip
Thanks a lot!

I live in Thailand and absolutely love it, but with the time you have budgeted for SEA, I wouldn't spend so many weeks in Thailand. There are many great places to see, it's just a matter of prioritizing which countries and cities you are really interested in seeing. If you are a beach or island person, then I can see you wanting to spend more time in Thailand. Otherwise, I'd enourage you to spend at least 5 days in Laos, ten days or two weeks in Cambodia, about the same amount of time in Myanmar (don't forget this country: it is amazing!), and about two weeks in Vietnam. And then there is Thailand. You can easily spend a month in each of these countries and not be bored.
I'm another one who would be interested in your route!! I have 2 months in SE asia doing all those countries. Having flicked through books i was thinking on concentrating on northern Laos and Northern Vietnam, Angkor wat and then one or two islands in Thailand. what do you think? havent a clue which way to go so really would appreciate your advice.
opps nearly posted that twice!
