I am looking for a budget flight from Singapore to KL but cannot find any. Can anyone help?
If I should take a train, how to go by train from Sg to KL? I hear the station is near (or pretty far?) from Tanjong Pagar station - does it mean Tg. Pagar MRT sta.? How far is it from Tg. Pagar sta.?
How long does the ride take and where in KL does the train stop? And is there any connecting train there into KL?
Thx in advance for any help!
There is no budget airlines servicing the KUL-SIN route as they are being monopolised by the national carriers of both countries, Malaysian Airlines and Singapore Airlines.
The train service is by the Malayan Railway (KTM). The station in Singapore is at Tanjong Pagar in the city, but it is not the same as the Tanjong Pagar MRT station. They should be near each other though.
However, I would suggest that you board the train from Malaysia at the Johor Bahru station, located just at the border checkpoint. This is because you pay twice as much for the ticket fare for boarding in Singapore than if you board in Malaysia. The fare figure are the same for all places, but you're charged in Singapore dollars when boarding in Singapore. The exchange rate is about 1 Singapore Dollar to 2.30 Malaysian Ringgit. That's why you pay double.
The journey from Johor Bahru to Kuala Lumpur takes about six hours. There are three train services in a day, morning, afternoon, night. The night train journey is longer than the day train.
The train service terminates at the central station called KL Sentral in the city centre. From this terminal, there are bus and train services to the airport, taxis, and the city Light Rail Transit (LRT).
Another way to go to KL is to take the bus from Singapore direct to KL. Since it doesn't stop at main cities or towns like the train, it's generally faster than the train, where it could reach the KL city centre in about five hours if the traffic is smooth on the highway, which usually is smooth unless it's long weekend break or public holidays.
In the city centre, different bus companies stops at different bus terminals. There are two terminals, the Puduraya bus terminal near Chinatown, and the Pasarakyat bus terminal near Bukit Bintang.
Hope that helps.
Hien, thanks for giving me so much information.
After I check the train timetable and adjust it with my flight schedule, it seems that I won't have enough time to visit KL.
If then you are unable to visit KL, why dont you visit JB its just over the coastway from Sg. and it is almost as developed as KL in nature some might say.
I took the bus once from Singapore to KL... They got some luxury liners going both direction... The one I took was aeroline... I even bought the ticket online... just search in google... "bus singapore kuala lumpur", you'll find many options!
Guys, thanks for all the tips!
Noorhizat, thanks but I wanted to visit KL for some other reasons. I have to miss it this time and I don't think I would go to JB.
Rama, terima kasih for the tip! It might be useful for next time.
