Need some help gettin into the Balkans from the UK.

We have about 3 weeks to travel thru Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia, and Montinegro but havin trouble finding a cheap flight. Going in November it seems all the Skyeurope flights are not available for November - same with Easyjet. So....we were thinking of a cheap Ryanair flight from London to Bari, Italia - THEN a ferry to Dubrovnik.

Anyone have better ideas? Or has anyone any idea on the ferry routes and times from Italy to Croatia?

Unfortunately I have no idea about frequency of ferries Bari-Dubrovnik at that time but I have some other suggestions... :) What about flight London - Ljubljana (by Easyjet or Wizzair) or London - Trieste (Ryanair)? There is less than 3 hours by train to Zagreb from Ljubljana... I think you should consider where to start at first (in the south or north) and make a plan of priority destinations... I can "tell" you from experience - we travelled through the same countries by car for 3 weeks as well and we didn't manage to see whole of them. If you are dependent on public transport this is even more difficult. :(
Wish you nice "Balkan route"...

hi there!
I should have said - we are finishing in the Koper/Trieste area so we want to start near to Greece and work our way up. Iv actually been to a few of the countries already - so its just to see some of the bits ive missed in the past - mainly Serbia/Bosnia. But may also extend to a month...

the latest plan is a ferry from Italy to Split - then down towards Montinegro I think.?!

My first thought was why don't you start in Greece (e.x. in Athens - can come there by plane or in Igoumenitsa - can be reached by ferry from Trieste) but when I realize just 3 weeks it was clear to me... Starting in Greece would mean to go also trought Albania or FYROM. I was already in Albania... It's definitely interesting country but I can't say you anything about public transport there - we travelled by car. From south to north Albania there is around 300 km but you need almost whole day to pass it. :(
I made some research and found out about ferries from Italy to Croatia. I'm afraid your plan won't be possible. There is none ferry's transport after 1. Oct till 1. June. Check on link:
I don't know what to say... Think about ferries from Italy to Greece but I should warn you that this can take you whole day and you can get sea sick if you are vulnerable for such things...
Probably you can't go earlier to this journey right? In case you can I suggest you to go in (late) September and you could stick to the plan 100%. ;)
Sorry for not so nice information but it's better to know few months before than find out last possible moment (in the port).

P.S.: Did you know that Montenegro is no more part of the Serbia (Yugoslav r.), but it's own country till end of May 2006? Just a quick flash...
