then you are looking for Kao San Road, or Koh Sarn Road, or Koh San Road

hehe

and most ALL taxi guys know exactly where it's at

it's a TON of tourists, backpackers, hair braiding, bars, hostels, etc etc

have fun, i was there twice this week already, but i'm not a "backpacker", i stay in the pimp hotels :P

Hi,

Besides the Khao San Road area (lots of kids head there) you can also stay at the Suk 11 Hostel.

The Suk 11 Hostel is on Sukhumvit Soi 11, not far from the Nana Skytrain stop. Google Suk 11 and you will get more info.

I'm not a kid so KSR does not appeal to me. I like the Siam - Sukhumvit area better because of the access to the Skytrain and you are nearer to the Ekamai bus station and easy access to the subway from the Skytrain. Lots of vendors, travel agents, restaurants, etc. in this area. No Skytrain access in the KSR area.

Airconditioned hotels start around 700 baht in Bangkok, how much do you want to spend? Fan only rooms a little cheaper.

Oh yeah, if you arrive at the the airport before midnight there is an AIRPORT BUS available that can safely take you to either KSR or the Sukhumvit area for 100 baht. The AIRPORT BUS kiosk is on the same level just outside the arrivals hall, not far from the taxi kiosk. Make sure you get some small bills for paying the taxi fare if you decide to go with a meter taxi!

Hello
We stayed at the Stardome Inn which is on a road just up from KSR so it is near enuf for a visit and to meet people but far enuf away that it is not too noisy.
Reasonably priced, dearest room 780 baht we opted for one at 680 the first time which was AC and telly and hot shower, free breakfast and 15%discount on dinner, and the second time we opted for 580baht, cold shower no telly and no discounted dinner, both times it was clean and a nice place, they also offer bag storage and shower facilities for if you check out earlier in the day. We checked out at 11 stored our bags there all day went back and had a shower before we caught the overnight bus to chiang mai.
