While in cambodia I stayed in guest houses, so I can't help you out with hotels, but as for Vietnam - here's some tips. When in Hanoi, it's super easy to book a trip to Halong Bay (about 3 hours away)- it was a wonderful time! Houseboating around the islands, spending a night on Cat Ba Island (buy pearls here! they are CHEAP and really nice). Do the 3 day/2 nights for sure (any shorter, you don't get to see anything really).

Sapa is beautiful. If you want to get clothes made - go to Hoi An (30 minutes away from Danang, which is a train station). Nha Trang - it's a Vietnamese tourist hot spot, pretty much just nice beaches/party town. If you go - hit Crazy Kims (fun pub that raises $ to prevent child sex crimes). Then hit Ho Chi Minh City and explore the history there.

Have a good trip

Hi there
Stayed in Phnom Penh and Angkor earlier this year, when in Phnom Penh we stayed at Rorys guesthouse ( would not reccommend this place), then in Angkor we stayed at the Reaksmey Chanteras this is a cambodian hotel, which does not seem to be featured in any books and not many websites, but the rooms were very nice, spacious and clean, lack of a lift but then again not that many stairs. Did not eat in the restaurant, so cant give an opinion, but 2 minute walk from old market area, and about 10-15 dollars a night, and unusually the laundry was also cheap and fast from this hotel.
Hope this helps.
Ask them about the tuk tuk driver called neil he was brilliant, they seem to know him in the hotel, he wont rip you off, and can speak a good level of English (including the swear words) Good man.

If you are in Siem Reap, do check out the Dead Fist Tower Inn. The rooms are clean, air-conditioned with TV and attached bathroom. It's USD 15/night for twin-sharing. It's within walking distance from the Center Market, Old Market and Pub Street (don't really know the actual name of the street) but that's where the pubs are!

There's a restaurant at this guest house and they serve good food. The "amok" (the most popular local dish) is one of the best we had.
