hi there ill be arriving in bangkok on the 3rd of oct untill the 23rd, then on to sydney and a year in oz,
was wondering if anyone is in thailand at the same time? and if anyone has any ideas on where and what to do and see while im there???
i want to party, do trecks, surf, dive, anything really.
I recommend no more than 5 days (tops) in Bangkok, and then head out to see something different. I spent a month in Thailand and my favourite place, by far, was Koh Phangan. It's an island paradise on the east coast near Surat Thani. It has got all the services a traveller could need but it hasn't been completely overrun by tourism (yet). If you're looking for more of a party scene, Chaweng is one island over on Koh Samui. I didn't enjoy it much after two weeks in Phangan, but lots of people like it there. Rai Lay in Krabi province on the west coast was sweet too. There are tons of activities like rock climbing, etc, and the area is scattered with cool islands within a few hours by longtail boat. Snorkeling there is great. I didn't make it to Chang Mai, but I've been told by lots of people that it was their favourite place in Thailand. Wherever you go in Thailand you're sure to have more fun that I will while I'm sitting at work. Enjoy it, and remember there are thousands of people thinking fondly and longingly of the places you're going ot be hanging out
I went to the southern Island 3 yrs ago and had my fill quite quickly. Bangkok is an amazing city esp if you want to party and at the weekends Ko Sumet - relatively close by, comes alive. For me its the most beautiful beach resort and is less affected by the rainy season (which you'll still be in) compared with the southern islands (Ko phagnan, sumui etc).
