Been to Hua Hin a couple of times. The town is divided into two distinct parts - the old part is where you find plenty of roadside stalls, local food, night market, etc. The new part is designed for tourists -cleaner, wider roads, lots of western food outlets, pubs and hotels.

I have stayed at Leng GH...quitet, but away from town centre - down south - and to be honest, Hua Hin doesn't have good sandy beaches, maybe the Takiab Beach...but most popular along visitors is Chaam,20km away.

If you are looking for one right in the heart of the town, there are a few - like Pala-U GH, Fresh Inn, Pansy Hotel.

Along the pier front, there are even more GHs - All Nations is a good bet, so are Mod GH, Memory GH.

And for night life, you have Poonsuk Street with rows of pubs, mostly western managed. Tipurai City Hotel is closely by. Not to be mistaken for Tipurai GH...

Satukarn Square is obviously a hot fav among tourists looking for western/european food...

But for cheaper food and bargain hunting, the old town area is still best...Catuchai Market. Good an cheap massage is at Euro Hotel...

thanks for the information, dana, this will be our first stop in a 6 week travel, we thought a relaxing time before setting off for Cambodia and Vietnam would be in order, sun and good food being the attraction. thanks a lot stokesy

Hua Hin is a wonderful place to irritating laid back.Friendly tourist police. I think you've made a good choice. It's a golfer's haven, too!

Enjoy and have fun.

Pala-U Guesthouse closed down years ago !
The nicest beaches are south of Hua Hin town, go down to Khao Takiab and then a few minutes to Takiab beach and Suan Son beach, these are great, palm trees and other trees and wide sands, lots of cheap and nice cabins and cottages and other places to stay, I would not anymore stay in town as too busy, just a little out of town are nicer beaches.

Thanks for pointing it out, Louissa. I stayed there middle of last year.
