I've heard some pretty indifferent opinons of these two cities from these forums. I am visiting them in about 4 weeks. Do people have any suggestions on how I might get the most out of these places? (indoors and outdoors).

Cheers

hmmmmm well, Saskatoon is a real nice city... the only thing is its stuck right in the prairies and not everyone feels the same way about them.

I've never been to Winnipeg but im sure its nice, I do know that there are lots of lakes there!.

If its a short visit I am sure you could find some things to do.

Winnipeg has a very vibrant arts community. Any local musician playing at a pub or hall or whatever, will be good. Only decent musicians come out of Winnipeg

Saskatoon is a great city. It is very slow and relaxed (generally). Be sure to walk Broadway avenue and check out the music stores (records and instruments), for a real view at some old prairie rockers. H.E.L. music, if it hasn't been sold yet, is the best. You'll find fine dining on that same avenue at Calories. Depending on the season, you may be able to try rabbit or some native fish.
There are also lots of sites that offer history into the Aborigional culture. Wanaskawin being one of them.

There's a brief snapshot!

having lived in Canada all my life, I can't say I've been to either of those two places. They seem to be the butt of a lot of jokes.

For the official listing of anything and everything you could possibly do, according to the tourism bureau:

If you are roaming in and around the areas, and you enjoy the tacky you may want to search for "the world's biggest..."

Saskatchewan has its share:
